Zimbabwe defended a meager total of 130 runs against a strong Pakistani batting line-up. Their bowling has looked sublime with Luke Jongwe, Richard Ngarava, and Blessing Muzarabani hitting hard lengths. Batting has looked solid with talismanic player Sikandar Raza leading the charge. Sean Williams has played a good supporting hand. All in all, Zimbabwe have good momentum and will fancy their chances of beating Bangladesh.

Bangladesh failed to build on their win over the Netherlands as they were dealt a battering by South Africa to the tune of 104 runs after being bowled out for just 101, chasing a whopping 206 to win. The Tigers had no option but to bat recklessly after conceding such a large score and assume they wind up bowling first again in this game, they will need a significantly improved display from their bowlers.

Rilee Rossouw struck the first century of this ICC T20 World Cup 2022 to give South Africa a dominating 104-run win against Bangladesh at the Sydney Cricket Ground. His big-hitting 109 helped his side to the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 edition’s highest total, with he and Quinton de Kock adding 163 for the second wicket, the second-highest partnership in the tournament’s history.

Bangladesh started the 206-run chase promisingly but after South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje’s three-wicket burst, the batters fell apart against the South African spinners. Anrich Nortje finished with his best T20I figures of 4-10, while Tabraiz Shamsi took three wickets. Getting bowled out for 101, it is now Bangladesh’s biggest defeat in this format.

South Africa were ahead of the five-over DLS par for no wickets lost but had only faced three overs when rain ended the game against Zimbabwe. South Africa were denied a victory in their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 opener after rain ensured their shortened fixture against Zimbabwe could not be completed. After a two-hour-and-35-minute delay, the match was reduced to nine overs a side.

Zimbabwe recovered from being 19 for 4 to set South Africa a target of 80, which was then cut down to a target of 64 in seven overs after another weather interruption. South Africa were well ahead of their five-over DLS par score when the players went off for rain again, but they had only faced three overs at that point – a T20 match is only completed when both teams have faced at least five overs.

Zimbabwe promised to cause as much damage as they could in the Super 12s and, two games in, they have inflicted a major blow. They defended 130 to deny Pakistan their first points and leave them at risk of not making the semi-finals, and they did in an extraordinary fashion.

After a strong start in their batting, they slipped to 95 for 7 and set Pakistan a modest target on a pitch with good bounce and a big outfield. But Zimbabwe have an understated and varied attack and they gave Pakistan’s – which Shadab Khan proudly proclaimed the best in the tournament – competition for that label. An all-round disciplined bowling effort led by Sikandar Raza (3/25) helped Zimbabwe stun Pakistan by one run in a thriller in Perth.

Zimbabwe’s pacers removed Pakistan’s openers in the first five overs before Sikandar Raza, in the form of his life, took two wickets in two balls and another in his next over to leave Pakistan on 94 for 6. Still, they should have fancied their chances. Pakistan needed 38 runs in the last five overs. Pakistan needed 11 to win off the final over of a pulsating evening, and that equation came down to three from three with the well-set Mohammad Nawaz at the crease.

But 25-year-old pacer Brad Evans produced three stunning deliveries right when it mattered. It still was at three needed off three but Brad Evans, playing his first game of this ICC T20 World Cup 2022 picked 2 scalps to flip the whole entire script.

Bangladesh scored 144/8 against the Netherlands who have lost all wickets for 135 runs. Bangladesh won by 9 runs against the spirited Netherlands. Netherlands’ Colin Ackermann waged a lone battle as he scored 62 off 48 balls before being a victim of Taskin Ahmed. Bangladesh’s Afif Hossain scored 38 while Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 25 and Mosaddek Hossain scored an unbeaten 20.

The in-form Dutch side bowled well for the majority of Bangladesh’s innings and some solid catching in the field meant the Asian side could only muster 144/8 from their 20 overs at Bellerive Oval.  Seamers Paul van Meekeren (2/21) and Bas de Leede (2/19) picked up two wickets apiece. Taskin Ahmed has picked 4 scalps for 25 and Hasan Mahmud has claimed 2 scalps for 15.

After being 31/4 in the Powerplay one would say it was quite a close game. But apart from Colin Ackermann and a few lusty blows from Paul van Meekeren, there were hardly any contributions. Bangladesh just kept picking wickets throughout the innings as the Netherlands did in the first innings.
